MEMORY MODULES manufacturer, Super Talent Technology, is showcasing its 16GB solid state disk (SSD) that is fully compatible with industry standard 1.8” notebook IDE drives, at GITEX. Super Talent’s SSDs employ an industry standard 44-pin IDE connector that is pin compatible with laptop IDE drives. Moreover, they have the same physical dimensions as standard 1.8” IDE laptop drives, making them an easy drop-in replacement for a conventional hard drive. However, unlike conventional hard drives, SSDs are built with solid state NAND flash chips, and, therefore, have no moving parts. The result is a storage device that is far more rugged and reliable than a conventional hard drive with no risk of a head crash. These characteristics make SDDs ideal for industrial and military applications where reliability is critical. And since SDDs use only a fraction of the power of standard hard drives, they also work well in extremely low-power environments. Super Talent offers these flash drives in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities. These products are available in industrial temperature range and aluminum casing for greatest durability; or commercial temperature range and plastic casing for lowest cost and lightest weight. All six products have already been validated in leading laptop computers, and will be available this month from Super Talent. Flash technology offers much faster access times than conventional hard drives. And thanks to a fast new controller, these drives deliver typical 17MB per second data transfer speeds. “Our SSD products position Super Talent as a technology leader in the flash storage market, and show the strength of our San Jose based engineering,” says CH Lee, VP of Business Operations, Super Talent. “We developed these IDE flash drives specifically for the industrial market where standard hard drives are simply not rugged and reliable enough.” Super Talent is also displaying super slim thumb drives and RAM cards for servers, PCs as well as notebooks. The company claims that all of its products are manufactured in the US.
