This year GITEX plays host to the exclusive launch of Nawaiya’s Interative Lifestyle Manager (ILM), which the firm claims is the region’s first handheld device to offer live satellite feeds. In addition to letting users watch live satellite content, Nawaiya’s ILM device allows users to play music and videos, surf the internet, and offers the capabilities of a standard mobile phone. Users will also be able receive real-time updates from stock markets in the region, including those in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Mr. Sami Issa, chairman of Nawaiya says, “Our vision at Nawaiya is to supply the Middle East market with its very own technology brand. Handheld devices that are available in the region are mostly global brands which are modified to suit the region. We think there should be a brand which from the ground up is developed in the Middle East, for the Middle East”. The ILM device - which supports both English and Arabic - operates using a full version of Windows XP and is fully compatible with Windows Vista. The device will come in 30Gbyte and 60Gbyte models. In terms of connectivity, the ILM uses 3.5G technology and supports WiMax, which is expected to be commercially available in the region in the next 12-18 months. The ILM device will be available in the region from January of next year.
