Buffalo eyes Middle East potential

Peripherals powerhouse Buffalo has made the long journey from Japan for this year’s GITEX.

Peripherals powerhouse Buffalo has made the long journey from Japan for this year’s GITEX. The company is wowing visitors to its stand with cutting-edge products and the vendor has also announced plans to boost its presence in the Middle East market. Makoto Maki, president and CEO at Buffalo, says: “We are considering setting up a joint venture company in the Middle East with a local partner and we are in talks with several interested parties. We already have a distribution partner in the region and we are considering adding more.” Buffalo peripherals already have a strong reputation in Japan and the USA and Maki and his team are using this year’s GITEX to finalise plans that they hope will allow them to emulate this market standing in the Middle East. “Buffalo sales are in excess of US$1 billion per annum and we have more than 700 employees in the company,” adds Maki. “Buffalo works hard to differentiate itself from other vendors in the peripherals sector and we have a reputation for high-quality products — we are the Mercedes of the peripherals market.” Buffalo’s boss is excited by the potential for growth that exists in the Middle East market. “GITEX becomes bigger and better each year and that is a reflection of the market growth that is occurring in the region,” continues Maki. “From a personal point of view, I think that it makes sense for us to now focus some of our efforts on developing Buffalo in this region.” Maki also claims that Buffalo is a technology leader in the market, highlighting the company’s development of personal network attached storage (NAS) products as just one example of the vendor’s innovative streak. “Buffalo used to be focused purely on PC peripherals but now we have started to move into the consumer electronics space as well,” adds Maki. “We believe that customers in the Middle East appreciate high-quality products and that bodes well for our future success in the region.” Buffalo’s vast product portfolio spans storage devices, memory modules and networking kit.
