Wide area file services (WAFS) are the hot topic for GITEX, according to Bhaskar Perui, Middle East regional manager for Packeteer. Packeteer specializes in wireless area network (WAN) optimization, an intelligent overlay for networked applications for distributed organizations that depend on collaborative, customer-critical applications to run their operations, and Perui says the new WAFS technology is attracting a great deal of interest at this year’s show. “WAFS solutions such as our iShared product line help businesses to accelerate, consolidate and control information across the WAN,” he explains. “Our solution dramatically improves file access performance for branch locations and consolidates servers, overcoming the barriers of latency, bandwidth and network reliability,” Perui claims. Packeteer has had a presence in the Middle East for the last four and a half years through its distributors FVC, and exhibited for the first time at last year’s GITEX event, but demand for the company’s high-speed offerings has really taken off over the last 12 months, according to Perui. “The Middle East market is an area of real growth for us – we have seen 50-60% growth year-on-year. Now everyone wants WAN application management and acceleration.”
