ERP software vendor Oracle is out to demonstrate the depth of its offering on day one of GITEX following the continued expansion of its product portfolio. The US-based company has hit the headlines over the past few years for a series of multi-billion dollar acquisitions, including PeopleSoft and Siebel, but it has also made a number of other purchases to sharpen its vertical market expertise. Retek has been brought on board to strengthen Oracle’s position in the retail software sector, while the purchase of I-Flex has boosted its credentials in the banking sector. This enhanced focus is clearly demonstrated on Oracle’s stand, explains Dana Murugan, senior director marketing at Oracle Middle East and Africa. “You’ll see a much deeper focus on acquisitions this year, obviously because of the acquisitions that we have made,” comments Murugan. “This year we feel confident that GITEX is going to be a lot bigger for us.” Oracle has specialist teams on hand from its Retail and CRM arms to demonstrate its technology, giving visitors an opportunity to view ‘hands-on’ demonstrations of its latest software solutions. Visitors can also get a glimpse of the products being offered by Oracle’s partners — 40 of which confirmed their presence at GITEX right after last year’s show.
