AVG Free 7.1 reaches end of the road

US-based security firm Grisoft has unveiled a new version of its free AVG anti-virus program and announced that its older 7.1 version will be discontinued on January 15 of next year.

US-based security firm Grisoft has unveiled a new version of its free AVG anti-virus program and announced that its older 7.1 version will be discontinued on January 15 of next year. According the Grisoft, version 7.5 boasts a new interface, improved performance and full compatibility with all versions of Windows Vista - Microsoft’s upcoming operating system. The firm also claims that version 7.5 offers improved virus detection based on more developed heuristics technology. According to the firm’s official website, users of the free version of AVG 7.1 will be provided with a notice within the next few weeks, with the option to download the free version of AVG 7.5. The new version is currently available for download from http://free.grisoft.com.
