Grosvenor House awards associates with inaugural event

Engelbert Vinuya stole the show at the first ever Grosvenor Awards, scooping three prizes

Dubai's Grosvenor House hotel hosted its first annual Grosvenor Awards in early October to recognise the hard work, accomplishments and performance of its associates over the past twelve months. The gala-dinner event follows in the footsteps of the longstanding tradition of sister-property Le Royal Meridien's 'Royal Oscar's'. The awards were bestowed upon the Grosvenor House's operational associates for their commitment, dedication and exceptional efforts in ensuring that Grosvenor House maintains the highest level of service. The awards consisted of 16 celebrity categories ranging from 'Trainer of the Year', 'House keeping Celebrity of the Year' through to 'Kitchen Service Celebrity of the Year'. "Each associate nominated on the night is the crème de la crème of Grosvenor House. Everyone is a winner," said general manager, Pam Wilby. "The evening was truly magical. It is an honour to be able to give back to our wonderful associates and to show our appreciation for all their hard work and commitment in making Grosvenor House the luxury hotel that it is today," she added. Star of the night was Engelbert Vinuya, the hotel’s IT butler, who won three awards: 'Customer Service Celebrity of the Year', 'Employee of the Year' and the 'Grosvenor Celebrity of the Year'. Among the other winners was Sous Chef P. Malath Jayasekara, who won the 'Lifetime achievement award' for his outstanding contribution over twelve years, first at Le Royal Meridien and now at Grosvenor House. The Indego restaurant associates were recognised as the 'Department of the Year' and 'Training Department of the Year' and finally Spencer Lee Black, Chef de Cuisine, won the 'General Manager's Recognition award'. The efforts of the unsung hotel heros will also be acknowledged on a regional level this month, when Hotelier Middle East annouces the winners of its own awards at a gala dinner at the Park Hyatt on November 12. More than 1000 nominations flooded in via the Hotelier web site over recent months as hoteliers throughout the Middle East paid tribute to those of their colleagues that always go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that each and every guest has a memorable stay.
