UAE-based travel agent, Thomas Cook Al Rostamani, is set to undergo major changes following the appointment of a new general manager. Experienced travel professional, Heinz Gabel, told ATN the company planned to open three new outlets in Q1 2007, to complement the existing branches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Malls and business districts were the prime locations for these new ventures, in order to “maximise the number of walk-in customers” and “increase overall accessibility”, he said. Plans are also in the pipeline to launch a dedicated outbound brochure early next year, and the company is currently in negotiations with suppliers worldwide. Gabel, a travel industry professional who has worked in Europe and Africa for the last 30 years, is also keen to grow the company’s inbound business by leveraging his contacts in Europe. “There is no systematic approach [to inbound business] at this stage. We’re expecting big volume increases for leisure,” he explained. Heinz is also developing relationships with companies in the Iberian Peninsular, a market untapped by the Middle East travel trade. Other plans include upgrading the Thomas Cook Al Rostamani web site to boost e-business. The company recently bought two remote credit card swiping machines, so that agents can visit Abu Dhabi customers at their homes or workplace to take their payments.
