The Kempinski group’s newest property has evaded repercussions from the conflict in nearby Lebanon, reporting healthy business during the five months since it opened. The Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, the first phase of which opened on May 1 with 117 Ishtar Villas, has primarily been welcoming Jordanians, as well as GCC travellers, according to Marissa Garcia Olm, the hotel’s director of sales & marketing. “We have had a very good response in the local market since the opening in May, and our results have exceeded our goals to date,” she said. “We opened with 20% the first month and occupancy has been rising steadily to around 30%. As of November, we expect a larger flow of international travellers as the season starts in Germany, Switzerland and Russia.” Olm predicted further occupancy level increases in 2007. “Our forecast is based on a maintained rate and occupancy until the end of the year with a moderate increase for the first half 2007, after which we will open the second phase,” she explained. The second phase of the hotel development, due for completion in late-2007, will see the addition of 201 sea-facing rooms and suites, an entertainment centre featuring a cinema/auditorium and a bowling alley, and meeting and sports facilities. The property will also boast an 1850m² Ishtar Royal Villa, comprising three bedrooms, an infinity pool, its own gardens and a private beach. A 10,000m² Anantara Spa is also being built, which will feature 20 treatment rooms, 28 spa suites, jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas and a Hammam, when built. “It is fitting that one of the world’s largest spas should be located at the lowest point on earth, which was, in fact, the world’s first health resort,” said Reto Wittwer, president and CEO of Kempinski Hotels.
