HP has ambitious plans for its ProCurve networking business, and is set for a strong turnout at Gitex 2006. “Gitex continues to be the most important gateway to the Middle East market. We will be providing our full line of products, from end to end solutions reflecting adaptive edge infrastructure,” says Ivan Kraemer, regional sales and marketing director for HP ProCurve. One critical area for enterprise IT vendors in the region is the government and public sector; vendors such as HP ProCurve are tapping in to the increased public spending in the Middle East. Government bodies across the Middle East are waking up to the need to protect their IT systems from attack according to threat management vendor SonicWall. At this year’s Gitex Show it will be showcasing its e-mail security, data backup and disaster recovery products. “SonicWall has always considered the Middle East as a serious market,” says Shahnawaz Sheikh, regional sales manager, MEA at SonicWall. “The opportunities are immense as governments of all major Middle Eastern countries have increased their budgets for IT security spending for this year and coming years.” Sheikh says that one of the areas of security technology that organisations in the Middle East are now becoming aware of is unified threat management (UTM). UTM refers to a comprehensive security solution including protection against multiple threats. A UTM product typically includes a firewall, anti virus software, content filtering and spam filter in a single integrated package. “UTM is just beginning to be understood in the market,” said Sheikh. “We believe that UTM solutions are the most essential foundations of security from entry level business to enterprise organisations who are looking for reduced cost of operation.”
