Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) have revealed projected figures for the inaugural Gulf Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) next year. Between 250 and 300 hosted buyers and a further 1500 to 2000 trade visitors are expected to attend, according to Paul Kennedy MBE, group exhibition director of RTE’s meetings and incentives events. Around 50% of the 3500m² area designated for the show, which will take place in the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) centre from March 27 to 29, will be occupied by destinations and private sector businesses from the region, he said. “We anticipate a further 25% being occupied by global hotel groups, with the remainder being taken up by international destinations outside the region,” he added. Reed said hosted buyers would be required to take part in a minimum of eight pre-scheduled one-to-one appointments with suppliers on each day that they attend the three-day fair. “This translates to literally thousands of appointments organised before the event takes place, whilst still leaving ample time for hosted buyers to visit and all parts of the event that they wish,” said Kennedy. Buyers will also have to attend the opening night and second night networking function. Like Arabian Travel Market, an educational programme of seminars, workshops and debates will also take place. In addition, buyers will be able to choose from a programme of tours and inspection programmes to several destinations within the region to take place post-GIBTM. Arabian Adventures, part of the Emirates Group of companies has been appointed as the DMC for GIBTM, and will provide all ground transportation for exhibitors, hosted buyers, and visitors, while Etihad Airways has been appointed the official partner airline. Nine official hotel partners have been secured, offering four- and five-star accommodation to hosted buyers; Beach Rotana, Crowne Plaza, Emirates Palace, Hilton, InterContinental Abu Dhabi, Le Meridien, Le Royal Meridien, Millennium, and Sheraton.
