Oman Air records passenger growth in 2nd quarter

Oman Aviation Services has experienced considerable growth in passenger traffic during the first half of 2006.

During this period, Oman Air carried 601,440 passengers, compared to 506,691 during the same period last year. In addition, the airline operated 6236 flights to different destinations, compared to 6041 during the first half of 2005, indicating growth of 3.2%. Last year, Oman Air’s passenger movement exceeded one million passengers to 1,135,450 compared to 984,000 during 2004. The record was the first of its kind since the company began operations in 1993. Ziad al Haremi, acting chief executive officer, said the company has increased the number of flights in some routes to coincide with the beginning of Khareef Festival in Salalah. The airline will operate 31 flights on its Muscat-Salalah route as against 25 planned earlier. It also operates Dubai- Salalah and Kuwait-Salalah weekly flights to cope with the large number of travellers to the Governorate of Dhofar.
