The world’s third largest travel management company, BCD Travel, has launched UAE operations. The US $12 billion company has recognised the growing importance of the UAE as a location for corporate business travel, and made it the 96th country in its global network. “The focus of the business will be two-fold,” explained Gregory O’Neil, managing director & vice president, global partner network & Asia Pacific region. “One half will facilitate travel for the small-to-medium sized enterprises market, while the other half will concentrate on top-end global business,” he added. BCD looks after the travel arrangements for 21% of the Fortune 500; a list of the top businesses in the US, said O’Neil. “We’re approached daily by travel managers wanting to do business in this part of the world, so by opening offices here, we can consolidate our business in the region,” he added. Khalid Al Rostamani, formerly of Thomas Cook Al Rostamani, is managing director of BCD’s three UAE outlets; a head office in Al Rigga Road, and two smaller offices in Bur Dubai and Jebel Ali Free Zone. Three more are expected to open in the next six months. BCD Travel’s CEO, Mike Buckman, said Al Rostmani would initially be responsible for building relationships with suppliers in the UAE. “We’re not looking to compete with companies on a local level, we’re looking at big global clients such as American Express,” he said.
