Austrian contractor Strabag has landed three major orders in Qatar, including a US $44.3 million (QR161 million) deal to build a beach mansion for the Emir of Qatar. The main building within the development will be star-shaped and built in reinforced concrete, covering an area of 8,000m2. It coincides with the award of the contract to build a gas-to-liquids plant for Royal Dutch Shell in the Ras Laffan industrial zone in the north of Qatar. The contractor has also taken the interior construction package for the 44 Misnad Tower in Doha, awarded by Qatari Investment Group. The company has tendered for several major contracts in Qatar and the UAE this year, after withdrawing from the region in 1999.
