Ahmed Mansoor collects Bahrain Lagoon package

Local contractor picks up main construction package as client looks to support Bahraini companies

Contractor Ahmed Mansoor Al A’ali (AMA) has taken the main construction package on The Lagoon Bahrain. The retail development is being promoted by Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH). Rashad Janahi, CEO, ADIH, said: “AMA was selected after a thorough evaluation of a group of short-listed bidders that included local and international contractors. “The high standard of work provided by the firm in the construction of the Bahrain Financial Harbour project, tog-ether with an exceptional performance record, has encouraged us to award AMA the construction remit of The Lagoon Bahrain.” He added: “The award of the construction contract to AMA also highlights our intention to support the local industry in the market that we are investing in. “In this instance, we have confidently selected a best-of-breed Bahraini company to play this significant role in The Lagoon Bahrain project.” The Lagoon is part of the Amwaj Islands development off the coast of Muharraq. The total land area is composed of 55,500m2, comprising eight low-rise buildings, which will house restaurants, cafes and various other retail outlets. The plots overlooking The Lagoon will be adjecent to a 1km walkway, which will encircle the development. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2007. Nicholas Fraser, executive director of real estate, ADIH, said that the project was on track: “The piling activity on The Lagoon Bahrain is progressing well ahead of schedule, with more than 50% of the 1,042 piles already cast, and is on target to meet the mid-October piling completion.” Project architect is Davenport Cambell.
