United Airlines expands into Asia

United Airlines has claimed it is committed to its European markets despite its plans to ditch its daily London Heathrow to New York service from October 27.

United Airlines has claimed it is committed to its European markets despite its plans to ditch its daily London Heathrow to New York service from October 27. The US carrier plans to sell its New York-London route authority to Delta Air Lines, which, if approved by the US Department of Transportation, will see the latter fly from New York’s JFK to London Gatwick. But a United spokesman told ATN the airline, which carries many Middle East passengers to the US from London and other European hubs in cooperation with regional airlines such as Emirates and Etihad, was “committed” to all its other services from London Heathrow Airport. “We fly [from Heathrow] to Chicago and Washington Dulles three times daily and San Francisco and Los Angeles twice daily. We only flew to New York once a day, compared to our competitors who fly there several times daily, and so there will be no impact from dropping this flight at all,” he said. The carrier will still operate full services from Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Munich, Brussels and Zurich to the US. United has also added 40 additional weekly year-round flights to the Asia Pacific region.
