Russia is increasingly becoming the UAE’s most important and lucrative inbound market, according Dubai-based DMC, Alpha Tours. The company was recently awarded the title of “Best Co-participant” by Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) for its extensive participation in a recent series of Russian roadshows, due to the amount of business it has generated as a result of the successful event. The five roadshows visited the CIS and Baltic markets, the most important inbound market for Alpha Tours, according to Ghassan Aridi, the company’s CEO. “Russian tourists spend a lot of money on everything from the hotels (including the type of rooms, longer stays, and extras), and on the shopping, entertainment and spas,” he said “We [have been] dealing with the Russian market for a long time; we are very well known in Russia now.” The DTCM was accompanied by 10 Dubai travel companies on the Russia and Siberia roadshow, which stopped off at Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, Ufa and Ekaterinburg, from June 5 -10. And according to DTCM statistics, there was a 38% increase in the number of Russian tour operators that included Dubai in their itineraries in 2005. Aridi cited the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Australia and other GCC countries as some of the other important sources for inbound travel for Alpha Tours.
