National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) is to protect data held on its employee’s laptops by deploying data encryption solutions from Pointsec Mobile Technologies. The technology, which secures critical information on the hard drives, will bar access to data held on any laptops that are lost or stolen. Hossam Elkobrosy, technical services manager at NBAD, said it was essential for the bank to implement such a solution as so many of its employees now use laptops containing confidential information whilst on the move or working from home. “All of our laptop computers naturally contain sensitive information in a variety of places —e-mail inboxes, documents and presentations that contain financial illustrations — so the bank took the decision to encrypt all the laptop hard drives, rather than to try to implement a file-by-file encryption policy,” he claimed. Pointsec’s PC encryption software is designed to ensure that all or selected parts of a hard drive can be encrypted in real time or can only be accessed by an authenticated user.
