Coral International is preparing to introduce its Murjan signature spa concept to more properties in its hotel portfolio. The UAE-based chain debuted its Murjan spa brand at the Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments, and following a successful launch there is now preparing the groundwork to roll out further Murjan operations at its other properties. First off the drawing board is a full renovation and expansion of the recreation facilities at the Coral Beach Resort Sharjah. “We are renovating the recreation area, and will add 12 spa rooms. It is a big project and we have already started construction,” Kezia Da Rocha, spa manager, Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments, told Leisure Manager. “Coral Deira will also develop a Murjan Spa of a similar size to here [at the Coral Boutique, with six rooms]. That will be completed in one year,” she added. Further plans include implementing the Murjan concept in Ajman, Oman and perhaps Lebanon. “It is a huge responsibility to make sure that the Murjan Oman or Lebanon is the same as the Murjan here [at the Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments]. It is about keeping consistency,” said Da Rocha, adding, “Most people think it is a fantastic idea. It belongs to Coral so it is not outsourced. It is more personalised.” Da Rocha was part of the team that created the Murjan concept, and has been with the Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments for over 18 months now. “The main challenge was to create a signature spa concept. After that, it was easy for us to decide on products,” she said. Murjan uses Sundari products for all its treatments. Da Rocha chose the US brand because of its flexibility to be used in a number of different treatment types. “We have great Ayurveda treatment rooms and we needed treatments that were natural, healthy and could be used for Ayurveda and other therapies. Sundari is not a dedicated Ayurvedic range, but it can be used for this,” Da Rocha explained. The Murjan spa at the Coral Boutique Hotel Apartments offers six female treatment rooms and one male area, and receives a 50/50 mix of local residents and in-house guests. It also offers a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, steam room and private terrace, and has a small membership of 50. “We have started to be well known by local business people and between 6-9pm is our peak period,” said Da Rocha. The spa has six therapists, all from Thailand, who have been trained by Da Rocha on the Murjan spa concept. “We have trained them and they have the perfect touch now, and know how to talk to the clients,” she remarked. “Murjan is all about coming home. Our clients are not rushed, and we never book treatments on a timeframe that means they need to be rushed in order to get to the next client.” Signature spa treatments include aromatherapy and shiatsu massages, reflexology, Sundari Abhyanga massage, body wraps and scrubs, facials and jet lag recovery treatments.
