Jumeirah has entered into a strategic alliance with property developer Nakheel to operate a number of its hotel properties on the Palm Jumeirah, including the Trump International Hotel & Tower. The partnership will see Jumeirah have complete operating and management responsibilities for the Trump property, the Jumeirah Shoreline Hotel & Yacht Club and five beach clubs also located on the trunk of The Palm Jumeirah, as well as a soon to be announced hotel on The World. “We are very grateful for the opportunity given to us by Nakheel to run multiple hotels and beach clubs at Palm Jumeirah and The World and our focus will now be on making sure that we will make these operations a great success from the day they come into operation. We look forward to a long term, strategic partnership with Nakheel which will hopefully see us working together on many more, exciting projects in the future,” said Bill Walshe, chief marketing & business innovation officer for Jumeirah. Jumeirah has stated that it aims to grow its portfolio of hotels to 40 by the end of 2009, and Walshe claims that the partnership with Nakheel is a “natural fit” with the group’s expansion plans. “We are looking to expand locally, regionally and internationally and working with such a prestigious developer as Nakheel fits in beautifully with our strategic direction. The development of our portfolio will mainly be through the acquisition of management contracts, be it for a single hotel development, as is the case in Shanghai for example, or through a strategic partnership with a developer such as Nakheel for a multi property agreement,” Walshe told Hotelier Middle East. Trump International Hotel & Tower, The Palm Jumeirah is the initial development in Nakheel and The Trump Organisation’s joint venture in the Middle East, which includes exclusive rights for 19 countries in the Middle East region and 17 major brands. James Wilson, chief executive officer, Nakheel Hotels & Resorts, said, “Trump International Hotel & Tower is set to become one of the world’s leading real estate developments; the realisation of a remarkable vision from two of the world’s leading developers. Jumeirah is a name that is synonymous with outstanding service and with them on board as operators we are positive that this development will become a highly acclaimed destination set to raise the bar for developers, investors and visitors the world over.” At present, no decision has been made on how Jumeirah will brand the Trump International Hotel & Tower, and Walshe remains confident that the joining of three ‘super’ brands such as Jumeirah, Nakheel and Trump will present more opportunities than challenges. “We don’t see this as a challenge at all. On the contrary, this is a tremendous opportunity for three strong, well renowned brands to work together on what is a very unique, luxury hotel development on Palm Jumeirah, which in turn is one of the most successful, dynamic and aspirational developments worldwide,” he said. Jumeirah will also manage the new Jumeirah Shoreline Hotel & Yacht Club and five clubhouses located along the east shoreline of the trunk as one unified operation. The hotel will offer 200 keys and 200 residences located on Dubai’s largest private beach at 2km long; facilities include beach club, spa, ballroom, retail and extensive underground parking. The clubhouses will offer a range of membership facilities to the Shoreline Apartment residents including convenience stores, restaurants, and gyms.
