Government-owned district cooling provider, Empower has short-listed three companies – Drake & Scull, TransGulf and Voltas – to construct a new district cooling plant in Healthcare City, Dubai. “The plot area for the new district cooling plant is about 120 m by 40 m and is currently undergoing excavation and dewatering works,” sales and marketing director Samer Khoudeir told MEP Middle East. “We will probably begin construction of the plant some time next month. We have short-listed three companies and will award the winner the contract sometime at the end of the month. We are in the final negotiations at the moment.” Empower is a joint venture between DEWA and Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone (Tecom) that provides energy-efficiency services in Dubai and the region. It is providing district cooling to the entire Jumeirah Beach Residences located on Sheikh Zayed Road and has won the contract to provide district cooling to Healthcare City.
