Façade specialist Alumco has won a landmark contract to supply a total of 75,500m2 of cladding to the 63-storey Burj Dubai Lake Hotel. The US $23.5 million (AED86.4 million) contract is one of the largest cladding supply packages to have been awarded in the UAE this year. And it comes just weeks after the contractor picked up another package on The Citadel tower in Business Bay. Managing director Samer Barakat, said: “The Burj Dubai Lake Hotel contract is a major pivotal point that reflects our success in being one of the most trusted companies to supply aluminium façades in the GCC.” Alumco signed the deal with the Arabtec-Besix joint venture, which is main contractor on the development. It covers the supply of 35,000m2 of unitised curtain wall, 35,000m2 of composite panel, and 5,500m of aluminium handrails. Alumco will start work on the tower in October and it is expected to be complete by January 2008. The tower will be clad with unitised aluminum panels 1.2m wide by 3.4m high. It has also supplied its unitised system to Sky Gardens Tower at DIFC, Liwa Heights and Fortune Tower at Jumeirah Lake Towers, and Emirates Crown at Dubai Marina. The system incorporates custom-designed windows and curtain walling, with full thermal breaks and drainage. Alumco’s current portfolio includes six major projects in various locations in Dubai. The company has also completed six towers on the Burj Dubai Development, Dubai Police Headquarters, the Al Murooj Complex and Shatha Tower in Dubai Media City.
