Taiwanese-based memory and storage manufacturer, Transcend has unveiled a new series of Orientally styled, high-speed flash drives, branded ‘JetFlash 168’. According to Trascend, the JetFlash 168’s decorative art panels convey “powerful symbolism in the Chinese culture”. The 1Gbyte Orchid’s design represents a woman’s beauty, the 2Gbtye Bamboo’s represents strength and vigour and the 4Gbyte Blossom signifies rebirth and new life. In addition to its new design, this new USB2.0 line comes bundled with security software called PC-Lock, which turns the flash drive into a key with which users can lock their PC. The drives also boasts a ‘Boot-up’ feature, which allows users to turn the flash drive into a bootable disc via their motherboard’s BIOS. This in turn means that if a user’s PC boot files become corrupted and their PC fails to start as a result, this ‘bootable’ USB can be used to kick-start their computer. A ‘Partition’ feature is also included, which lets users create a secured second partition that can only be accessed once a password has been entered. Transcend’s JetFlash 168 line is available now, priced from US $30 for the 1Gbyte Orchid drive up to $120 for the 4Gbyte Blossom.
