Nortel has named Darryl Edwards as president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa operation. Edwards replaces former Nortel EMEA president Steve Pusey, who has left the networking vendor to take on the role of chief technology officer at Vodafone. Edwards has been with Nortel for 14 years and most recently served as president of the vendor’s operations in Northern Europe, the Middle East and Netas, Nortel’s joint venture in Turkey. “We’re thrilled to have Darryl Edwards as our new president of EMEA,” said Mike Zafirovski, president and CEO at Nortel. “Darryl has a superb sales and management track record at Nortel. Darryl has a terrific balance of high impact, low ego leadership style.” “He has surpassed his targets in each of his 14 years at Nortel and is well respected by customers, peers and employees. He has tremendous experience throughout the entire EMEA region and is the right person to lead Nortel’s efforts in an area that’s vital to Nortel’s future success,” Zafirovski added. Pusey will take on responsibility for all aspects of Vodafone’s networks, IT capability and supply chain management. He will report in to Vodafone’s chief executive of Europe and will also join the group’s executive committee. Pusey joined Nortel in 1982 and held a variety of positions on both the enterprise and carrier side of the business. “Steve has made a tremendous contribution to Nortel over the past 24 years, particularly in growing our business in EMEA in his last five years as president of the region,” said Zafirovski. “We’re grateful for his years of service and his huge impact on the business. We know this is a great opportunity for Steve and we wish him all the best.”
