Security software and solutions vendor Trend Micro has teamed up with value-added distributor OnLine to launch a campaign to raise the regional reseller community’s awareness of data theft issues and the sales opportunities these create. “With web usage growing exponentially year-on-year, the increase in risk from data theft becomes greater, especially as more and more information goes digital,” said Nisar Khan, channel account manager security business unit at Trend Micro. “Businesses need to be made aware that attacks are on the increase and that hackers are switching from the usual worm method of infection to the Trojan horse attack tactic.” “With the many daily threats, customers need to be constantly updated on their defences. We want to empower our channel partners so that they can discuss security strategy with customers to ensure infrastructure is properly defended,” Khan added. With cyber criminals using worms, Trojans and spyware, which now make up 70% of all malware to target PC users, OnLine Distribution is keen to build on its relationship with Trend Micro and drive awareness of new security technology. “We recognise the key role the channel plays in protecting businesses in the Middle East and want to ensure as many companies as possible are involved with it. As a value added distribution house, our prime responsibility is to develop and support our partners so that we build mutually beneficial relationships. We will launch a number of promotions shortly and hope to generate sales leads for our partners,” explained Sushma Kajaria, business unit manager, security business unit at OnLine Distribution. “We want proactive resellers to add value. By partnering with Online Distribution, we want to help drive partner awareness, and give them access to relevant technology. We intend to run end-user demand-generation campaigns, and all leads will be fulfilled through the channel,” concluded Khan. OnLine also boasts an enterprise sales team capable of feeding leads onto channel partners. Resellers themselves can also take advantage of the added-value opportunities surrounding the provision of support and services to end-users.
