Emirates’ Destination & Leisure Management Division (D&LM) is on track to earn AED 4.5 billion (US $1.23 billion) in revenue per annum by 2010, the division’s senior vice president, Hans Haensel has told ATN. “That has a lot to do with the hotels (in the new Emirates Hotels & Resorts group) coming online, but business is also increasing for the other sub-divisions of the business; Arabian Adventures, Emirates Holidays and Congress Solutions Dubai,” he explained. “Emirates Holidays is the fastest growing [sub-division], but Congress Solutions, which we only started one year ago, is working well.” Last year (the financial year 2004-2005), the division achieved revenues of just under AED 1 billion ($272 million). “This year we are already on track to earn AED 1.6 billion ($436 million) and we are ahead of budget for the first quarter of this financial year (2005-2006).” Haensel was speaking after the D&LM Division revealed plans to add a new 10-storey extension to its four-storey Dubai headquarters on Sheikh Zayed Road. The AED 80 million ($21.8 million) building will house more than 1000 staff across the four specialised operations and will be completed by August next year. “Right now we employ 539 people at this building. That will increase to 1000 over the next four years,” said Haensel. Emirates Holidays’ retail outlet, Emirates Holiday World, which is located on the ground floor of the existing building, is also currently being refurbished and is “designed to enhance the holiday booking experience” for customers, according to an Emirates press statement. Emirates’ new Hotels & Resorts group, which was launched in March, will invest AED 2.4 billion ($652 million) in new property projects over the next four years. These include the new 77-storied twin tower project, Emirates Park Towers hotel complex, and Emirates Marian Serviced Apartments & Spa, both in Dubai. Planned international projects include the Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, currently under construction in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia. Another resort is planned at an unnamed destination, the details of which ATN will reveal in forthcoming issues.
