The new drive is aimed at so-called small and home office (SOHO) ‘power users’ who require up to half a terabyte of high performance external storage capacity. The My Book Pro Edition comes with no less than three connection interfaces; FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 (Firewire making it both PC and Mac compatible); plus it packs in EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software and is available in capacities of 250Gbytes or 500Gbytes. “The My Book Pro Edition perfectly serves the needs of power users by delivering maximum performance and large capacity, while maintaining the simplicity and style of the My Book family,” said Jim Welsh, general manager of WD’s Branded Products Group. “Now with My Book Pro Edition, small office/home office users can benefit from a robust full-featured external storage solution with the same WD quality and reliability that our customers worldwide have come to expect.” Like the firm's high-end consumer hard disk, the MyBook Premium edition, the Pro edition is equipped with a capacity gauge LED that allows users to discern at a glance their remaining storage space, self-installs when plugged into a PC, and also powers on and off with the PC.
