Dubai-based consumer electronics and household appliance manufacturer Nikai has revealed plans to establish its first assembly line in the UAE. The company, which has to date built a successful business leveraging OEM partnerships with key manufacturers predominantly based in Asia, will build the assembly plant in the Emirate’s new Dubai Investment Park. Revealing the plan, Nikai chairman Paras Shahdadpuri said the new US$10 million facility would also include a logistics and distribution centre servicing markets across the Middle East. It is expected to come on line within the next 12 months. The company currently boasts a presence in 80 countries worldwide but is increasingly shifting its focus to markets in developed regions, such as Europe, said the company’s assistant general manager Amit Vardhan. Nikai is also increasing its investment in its premium Midas range of consumer electronics products, which includes plasma and LCD TVs. In a bid to ensure improved quality, the company recently shifted production of both product categories to Europe, after securing deals with premium OEM partners based on the continent. Production of both ranges had previously been outsourced to China. “The new OEM deals ensure there is a lower defect rate in our plasma and LCD TVs,” said Vardhan. “The new displays also boast noticeably improved picture quality and incorporate higher-spec features.”
