3Com’s newly appointed general manager for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, Curt Fisher, was in attendance at the networking vendor’s recent 3Com star awards — an event that recognised outstanding performance by distributors, resellers and retailers across the region. Prior to his appointment as general manager for the EMEA theatre, Fisher was in charge of the business partner organisation within the region. Geaton Cantale, VP sales emerging markets and Manish Bhatt, EMEA marketing and business development manager also attended the glittering awards ceremony. More than 80 partners attended the event from across the Middle East region. Amanulla Khan, regional channel manager at 3Com, was on hand at the ceremony to announce the winners. Applicom picked up the voice products reseller of the year award with ITServe bagging the new reseller of the award year for voice products. The best new reseller prize for value-added sales went to Thakral Gulf with Saudi Arabia’s Computer Castle departing with the best product mix award for resellers. The UAE’s Quality Computers received the best volume reseller for wireless products award with New Trend bagging a similar award for its efforts selling LAN products. TE Data picked up ISP of the year and Tech Data went home happy with the distributor award for best reseller breadth. Elsewhere, Egypt’s Mantrac picked up distributor of the year for wireless sales and Raya, also of Egypt, grabbed the volume sales award. UAE-based Online Distribution took home the value-added sales distributor award and Aptec Gulf won the distributor of the year award for best overall performance. The awards were in line with 3Com’s recent efforts to enhance its focus partner programme in EMEA. The programme enhancements, developed after extensive consultation with both existing as well as non-3Com partners, aimed to create one of the most profitable and partner-friendly schemes in the networking space.
