Three groups will today (Saturday 10 June) submit bids to build the US $300 million (AED 1.1 billion) Etihad Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport. They are Al Jaber/Odebrecht, TAV/ACC and Murray & Roberts/Habtoor. It is one of several massive airport construction packages to be let in the UAE this year, worth billions of dollars. Contractors are expecting an award to be made within four to six weeks. “The project is likely to take around 14 months with key handover dates for some of the departure gates at between six to eight months,” said project director Howard Banks. The Supervision Committee for the Expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport (Scadia) had originally set a bid closing date of 22 April for the contract to build the 55,000m2 terminal for national carrier Etihad Airways. Seven groups were originally pre-qualified for the project. A joint venture of Al Jaber and Odebrecht took the main contract to build a new 4.1km-long runway at the airport, last month.
