Big Brother will soon be watching sites across the UAE after the Ministry of Labour signed an agreement to use high-resolution satellite imagery to monitor workers. Under the terms of the deal, Informap Production, which specialises in international mapping and satellite imagery, will develop programmes for the ministry to enable it to keep an eye on the activities of companies on sites. The tie-up is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. And the ministry is hoping the move will reduce the number of protests by labourers who rioted at two high profile sites in March and April, which made headlines around the world. In late May the ministry had to deport 86 Besix construction employees after they refused to end a strike over pay and conditions at the Al Quoz labour camp in Dubai.
