Refad Hotels & Resorts announced that it is to operate a new property on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. Managed under the company’s five-star brand, The Monarch, the development will also include a convention centre and an office tower. The development, which will be known as the Monarch Hotel & Convention Centre, is scheduled for completion at the end of this year and should be ready for occupation by early 2007. “The project will comprise 240 rooms and suites, seven haute cuisine restaurants, and a 600-seat ballroom. There will be 141 executive rooms and 40 deluxe suites, as well as presidential and royal suites. Besides the ballroom, 16 meeting rooms will also be available to host major functions,” said Refad president, Antoine Yazbek. “The entire site measures 115,000m², with parking for 700 cars. The office tower alone covers 33,000m² and has 37 floors,” he added. With this being Refad’s third year at ATM, Yazbek was also keen to emphasise that the Middle East and North Africa region would play a significant role in the company’s future expansion plans. While two prospective projects are under discussion in Europe at present, Yazbek is also on the look out for acquisition possibilities across the region, specifically in Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. The group aims to speed up the expansion of its hotel collection through management and lease contracts, and the intention is to add around six new properties per year to Refad’s portfolio over the next five years, according to Yazbek. “With a portfolio of five distinct hotel brands, we are able to offer hospitality products tailored to the needs of all guests, from those seeking world-class luxury resorts to discerning business travellers,” he explained.
