Toshiba has unveiled a new addition to its Satellite notebook series called the U200. According to the firm, its new notebook matches the needs of highly mobile consumers who require a small and lightweight notebook as a work and play tool while on the move. The U200 is equipped with an Intel Centrino processor, 120Gbyte hard disk, a 12.1-inch TFT LCD screen and a finger print reader for added security. Memory wise, the notebook offers 512Mbytes of RAM as standard and this can be expanded further to 4Gbytes. WiFi and Bluetooth support are also included. Additionally, Toshiba’s ConfigFree software is pre-installed on the U200, which is designed to let users easily connect to the internet from any Wi-Fi hotspot via a wireless LAN, wired-based ethernet connection, or Bluetooth. Toshiba says the U200 notebook can handle the daily wear and tear of mobility thanks to its HDD Protection system and spill-resistant keyboard. The Protection system monitors motion and is designed to ‘park’ the hard drive’s heads safely in order to prevent a head crash and thus data loss when excessive motion is detected. Toshiba's U200 will be available in stores for approximately US $1450.
