Al Islami streamlines its business

Halal meat producer restructures operations in preparation for global expansion.

Al Islami Foods, a Dubai-based halal food producer, is restructuring its operations to reduce costs and improve customer service. The restructuring process will see the company introduce special regional teams and give individual managers greater responsibility for customer sales and services in various geographical territories. The move comes at a time when Al Islami is poised for greater regional growth and is expanding into newer markets such as Europe, Iran and the Levant countries. “Al Islami is now executing a new brand and new strategy to go global and we felt that it is important to redesign our house,” Saleh Abdullah Lootah, CEO of Al Islami Foods, told RNME. “We identified three major areas which are the commercial and technical departments and the support services department," he added. "Al Islami expects a significant growth in its profits and we are keen that we have the right people and infrastructure in place to realise this ambition.” “With demand for halal food soaring worldwide, we look forward to consolidate our penetration into the new markets with experienced teams who have in-depth experience of the local markets,” Lootah said. He added that Al Islami Foods’ decision to undergo restructuring was based on the company’s commitment to strengthen its strategic operations in major local markets and to provide a consistently positive customer experience – from a diversity of products to a committed consumer relationship system. “It’s designed to streamline processes,” he said. “There will be an accountable person to hold each department together and try to maximise its capabilities.” The restructuring process will see a number of FMCG professionals taking up key responsibilities within the company. As part of this process, Hasan Rimawi, Al Islami’s productivity process manager will be promoted to chief technical officer, and will oversee parts of the business including supply chain, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, according to Lootah. Rimawi, who has experience in leading international organisations such as Compaq and Campbell Soup, will oversee the restructuring of Al Islami’s technical department. This will be done with the aim of building a strong base capable of fueling more innovative products and improving systems to meet the company’s growth plans. Sales manager Mamoon Al Qaryouti is taking on a new role as chief operating officer, while P. Sushil Kumar has been promoted to the role of shared services director. Kumar was responsible for administering and managing specialist software networks at Al Islami and led the company through a SAP process re-engineering initiative in 2005. As shared services director, he will be heading the support functions, finance, HR and IT. Al Islami is also hiring an R&D expert in the next few months, a move that will allow the company to start developing new products.
