HP has joined forces with Alcatel and Microsoft for the delivery of server solutions for IPTV deployments. The agreement sees HP become a key member of the joint Alcatel-Microsoft IPTV ecosystem. All three vendors will now work together to deliver these advanced systems to operators deploying triple-play service offerings. The optimisation of HP’s server solutions will include the ability to provide superior support for the Microsoft TV IPTV edition within Alcatel’s overall Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture. HP will validate and recommend the appropriate HP ProLiant and HP BladeSystem servers to optimise the performance and scalability of Microsoft TV IPTV edition applications. The three companies will also establish joint global efforts in sales and marketing, with Alcatel including specific bundled server solutions built with HP ProLiant and pre-integrated HP OpenView IT element management software in its end-to-end triple play offering. In combining their efforts, HP, Microsoft and Alcatel hope to speed the time to market for IPTV services while also improving system performance and architecture scalability for telecoms service providers. “Today’s announcement demonstrates the growing momentum of the IPTV industry,” claims Christine Heckart, general manager of marketing for Microsoft’s TV division. “Service providers benefit from increased system performance and enhanced architecture scalability that result when industry-leading companies such as HP join the IPTV ecosystem.” Microsoft and Alcatel first got together over IPTV with an agreement in February 2005 having previously been rivals in the IPTV middleware field. High profile IPTV announcements involving these two include the multimillion dollar deals with SBC and Verizon in the US.
