Rezidor SAS is preparing to take over management of Dubai’s oldest five-star hotel on October 1, when it reflags the InterContinental Dubai as a Radisson SAS. The Scandinavian hotel operator has already outlined plans for renovation and staff training upon raising the Radisson flag above the property, and, according to Jean-Marc Busato, vice president Middle East, Rezidor SAS Hospitality, there are also marketing synergies to be tapped into with the Radisson SAS Dubai Media City hotel. First on the agenda is renovation. “Although the property has been well maintained, we will conduct a thorough due diligence inspection of the property. Once we take over the management of the hotel, our dedicated technical team will prepare a detailed renovation programme in conjunction with the operations department and will establish a timeframe based upon the key priority items emerging from the review,” Busato told Hotelier Middle East. All current employees at the InterContinental Dubai have been invited to join the Radisson SAS family, and Busato is confident that once the company’s signature ‘Yes I Can’ spirit has been adopted the hotel, and its staff, will witness further success. “Rezidor SAS is known for its training programmes which clearly puts the development of our employees first. We will evaluate the staff needs and tailor the necessary programmes to drive the culture and philosophy of Radisson SAS hotels in an effective and responsible way; this will obviously include the ‘Yes I Can’ training concept, and our sales management success programme,” he said. Radisson SAS recently introduced free broadband services, IT concierge and signed a partnership with Nespresso to have Nespresso coffee machines in all Radisson SAS’ Business Class and Royal Club rooms and suites, as well as in the meeting and conference rooms. All of these new innovations will be introduced to the reflagged hotel. Marketing of the property will take place through the Rezidor GSOs in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the US, together with three general sales representative offices (GSR) in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. “In addition, our own property sales teams in 15 properties in the Middle East will actively promote and cross-sell the hotel in their local markets,” Busato said. “The [new management] announcement on its own created a buzz in the market and we will build on this momentum,” Busato said. As for the partnership between this property and the Radisson SAS Dubai Media City, Busato remains confident that the two will dovetail. “Having two properties located in either part of the Dubai business districts, it will create an excellent opportunity for marketing and sales synergies between the two. Soon this will be complemented by a third Radisson SAS property on the ultimate leisure location, The Palm Jumeirah,” he remarked.
