Hotec Middle East, the supplier/buyer forum for the hotel industry, achieved record numbers of both suppliers and buyers at this year’s event, which took place at the Beach Rotana Hotel & Towers in Abu Dhabi in early April. In total, the event attracted 53 buyer tables, which included the two purchasing groups Parker and Orsini/Chris Garrod, and 51 hotel groups. Including speakers, panellists and press, the event attracted nearly 200 industry professionals. This was a 30% increase over the previous year, with 26% more suppliers and 46% more buyers. “We wanted to do this to ensure that the ratio between buyers and suppliers was more even — to enable the suppliers to get the number of meetings they expect, and for the buyers not to have to work too hard,” Jonathan Needs, director, Pelican Events, organisers of Hotec Middle East, told Hotelier Middle East. “We estimate that there were over 1100 meetings conducted — not including the informal ones, or the ones conducted at the showcase.” In addition to the scheduled meetings, Hotec again incorporated a seminar programme, with three individual presentations and a special food & beverage discussion panel. Hosted by media sponsors, Hotelier Middle East, speakers included Declan Monahan from Marketboomer International, talking on the impact of E-Procurement and E-Supply on the Middle East hotel industry.
