Security specialist Comodo is offering its Comodo Anti-Virus V1.0 software, which it claims is one of the most powerful AV solutions ever created, completely free for home users. Easy to install, configure and use, Comodo’s AV solution is free from the off and neither will it require any renewal, license or subscription fees in the future, the company has promised. “As Internet security threats rise, consumers are increasingly aware of the risks yet are also increasingly confused about how to manage this growing complexity,” said Melih Abdulhayoglu, president, chief security architect and CEO of Comodo. “To date, software companies have flooded the market with stripped-down versions of software that are quite ineffective at combating and defending against these threats. Comodo, as a Certification Authority, has a special responsibility to provide a way for consumers to conduct trusted communication and commerce through authentication and protection technologies.” Anti-Virus V1.0 features heuristic scanning, which means it uses built-in virus trend analysis to intercept previously unknown threats, as well as on-demand/on-access scanning, e-mail scanning, process monitoring, a worm blocker and simple to configure scan scheduling. The application has also been designed to deliver its protection while minimising the load the program places on a PC’s CPU, while on the update front, new virus definitions can be automatically downloaded according to a schedule of the user’s choice (or a single click of the solution’s ‘updater’ button). Anti-Virus V1.0 only works on PCs that run either Windows XP (SP2) and Windows 2000 (SP4 or later). AV is not the only free program to be offered by the firm. Some of Comodo’s free security tools include; ability authenticate web identities in real time (www.VEngine.com ), PC vulnerability scanning (www.HackerGuardian.com), free e-mail certificates for secure e-mail encryption, secure BackUp for backing up files on your PC and iVault for password management and launching secured Internet sessions. These free solutions can save consumers hundreds of dollars while enabling consumer to achieve an unparalleled level of Internet security and trust.
