Networking colossus Cisco has named Dr. Aamir Matin as general manager of its operation in Pakistan. The appointment came as Cisco expanded its presence in Pakistan, opening up a new office facility in Islamabad. Dr. Matin has more than 25 years of ICT experience in a variety of roles including CEO, entrepreneur, policy-maker and educator. His most recent position was at the Ministry of IT where he led several successful initiatives that resulted in a boost in the exports of IT and IT services from Pakistan during the past couple of years. “All emerging markets are high growth markets for Cisco within the coming years and Pakistan remains the country with one of the highest growth potential,” said Dr. Matin. “Creating a theatre devoted to these markets will enable Cisco to satisfy unique local market requirements with tailored, yet scaleable go-to-market models.” “The competitive challenges in these markets can be significantly different. This approach makes us more focused with our investments and processes versus key competitors in each category. Cisco is the first company to take a bold step by investing now and creating demand in its favour as well as accelerate growth for years to come,” he added. Dr. Matin will report into Mark De Simone, VP Middle East and Africa at Cisco and will also work closely with Sam Alkharrat, general manager at Cisco Gulf to prepare the operating plan for the year ahead for the vendor’s operation in Pakistan. “Pakistan is a key market for us and we have invested heavily here in terms of people and by opening up a new office in the country,” said De Simone. “These important changes are part of Cisco’s strategy underpinning the creation of the new emerging markets theatre.” “The emerging market theatre will bring together a new common corporate approach by Cisco for a set of regions, covering Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, Russia and other members of the CIS and Eastern Europe,” he concluded.
