The Mitsubishi-led Dubai Rapid Link Consortium could face competition for the construction of Dubai Metro’s Green Line after it was revealed that the job might be re-tendered. The consortium, including Japanese firms Obayashi and Kajima and Turkish contractor Yapi Merkezi, has already started work on the Red Line. However, the Dubai Road and Transport Authority is considering pitching the job to rival contractors. Adnan Al Hammadi, director of construction, Dubai Metro, said: “We have received an offer from the contractor of the Red Line — we might take advantage of this or we might re-tender. “Upper management will evaluate the contractor’s current performance and if it is happy with it, it might choose to give it this contract.” A contractor for the Green Line would have to be appointed before the 4.7km of tunnelling work begins on the Red Line in November.
