Jordanian mobile operator Fastlink has appointed Saad Nasir as its new general manager. Nasir takes over from Mohammad Saqer, Fastlink CEO since 2003, who has moved onto to other opportunities outside of the company, according to a spokesperson from the operator. Fastlink is owned by Kuwaiti mobile operator MTC, and MTC Group general manager Saad Al-Barrak says the appointment of Nasir is part of a reshuffle that will also affect the pan Middle East and Africa operator’s offices in Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon and Sudan. Despite being the second mobile licence holder in Jordan, Fastlink is the country’s largest operator, serving some 2.2 million customers, a 65% share of the Jordanian mobile market. Jordan is considered one of the regions most competitive mobile arenas, with four operators battling for subscribers. Fastlink's subscriber base makes up 39% of MTC’s overall Middle East customers, and 14% of its total customers across the region and the continent of Africa. Data services at Fastlink are becoming increasingly important, and Nasir says that today they contribute to 12% of the company’s total revenues. The annual growth rate of data services has been steady at around 25%, he claims. Nasir has been with MTC since 2004. Having served as first advisor to the work team in Kuwait, he took the position of chief commercial officer at the company’s MTC Touch unit in Lebanon.
