Middle East Communication Networks has raided Starcom Mediavest’s senior management as it prepares to launch a dedicated media division. Oussama Jamal and Eyad Abdul Khalek have joined MCN as regional operation directors to work across media agencies Universal Media 7, Initiative, and buying arm Magna. It is expected that MCN will announce the creation of a holding division called MCN Media shortly. The move follows a trend of networks bringing together their media agencies. Publicis has aligned Starcom and Zenith under Publicis Groupe Media, while OMD and PHD are under the Omnicom Media Group. Fadi Salameh, CEO and president of MCN, said the new recruits will work closely with the managing directors of MCN’s three media agencies to drive expansion plans. “Both Oussama and Eyad are well-renowned media specialists in the region and their joining our team in senior operational positions will be a huge boost to our group’s media endeavors,” he said. “They have tremendous business growth records at Starcom and have unique experiences and perspectives on synergising media operations, optimising both buying and planning and launching several key initiatives. “They were key players in areas of product quality, innovation, restructuring, diversification, and building the operations culture throughout the region.” MCN is the holding group for advertising agencies Fortune Promoseven and Lowe, along with media operations UM7, Initiative and Magna; and PR arm Weber Shandwick. UM7, under regional director Jaikumar Menon, has had 13 new business wins in 2006, including Damas.
