Intel has teamed up with multinational vendor giants and local assemblers this week to showcase its latest dual core technology and ensure that the Kingdom’s mobility momentum continues throughout 2006 and beyond. Ferhad Patel, Intel’s country manager for Saudi Arabia, says: “We have masses of co-marketing activities taking place this week and we are also giving away marketing collateral. The new dual core processor notebooks are proving incredibly popular.” Intel partners are also showcasing desktops featuring dual core processors this week, but it is the mobility solutions that are expected to draw the crowds as price points continue to tumble on cutting-edge notebooks making them an attractive purchasing option for business customers and consumers. “The price of notebooks is still coming down and this makes them even more attractive,” explains Patel. “Many people are buying notebooks so that they can trade on the stockmarket online. In fact, when the stockmarket took a slight dip our resellers actually reported a slight lull in notebook sales as a result. However, sales have now started to pick up and Gitex is the perfect platform for driving dual core notebook sales - especially given the attractive promotions that our partners have put together.” According to Patel, local assemblers such as Zai and others are holding their own in the notebook sector, differentiating their product offering through unique specifications tailored to specific customer needs. With public sector IT investment climbing and more foreign direct investment in the Kingdom, Patel is confident about the future.
