Although security and storage giant Symantec does not have its own booth at this year’s Gitex Saudi Arabia, the vendor is very much a part of its channel partners’ stands at the show. Topping the list is Jeraisy Computer and Communication Services, which is concentrating on Symantec’s enterprise product portfolio. “Symantec has been promoting its information integrity model and we will be focusing on positioning security and availability, back-up storage, as well as our other products, as an integrated solution, all positioned with our security intelligence,” says Ali Jomaa, country manager for Saudi Arabia at Symantec. “We’re not talking about a specific product we’re talking about a general idea.” Symantec wants to spread its ethos of tackling threats before they become a problem. “Previously most of our partners are more reactive in the security and backup department,” Jomaa says. “We would like to change this around through education, training and workshops to assist them to reach a level where they can be proactive in managing their security and their business continuity departments. Technology is not the solution, it has to be a combination of people and processes,” he adds. Jomaa has no doubt that the Saudi Arabian market is crucial to Symantec’s success in the Middle East. “It’s quite a big market for us,” he says. “We’re talking about 40% to 50% of the Middle East market,” continues Jomaa. Jomaa believes that the exhibition not only helps to boost sales, but that it also forms a crucial part of the company’s overall strategy to maintain a strong brand name in the Kingdom.
