Dubai Municipality (DM) has implemented workflow software to revamp its business process infrastructure so that it can provide faster and more efficient services to customers. The solution, which has been implemented at the Administration and Quality Development Department, is expected to provide significant benefits to DM across different organisational levels, expediting processes and procedures. The new software is designed to give DM a clear vision as to the flow of processes to enable process optimisation. It allows quick-wins to be realised immediately and potential benefits to be specified and evaluated in more detail. Furthermore, the solution will allow the DM management to make decisions based on exhaustive cost-benefit analysis and plan implementation of strategies accordingly. “Today, process optimisation has become crucial to achieving organisational goals. Implementing a sophisticated workflow software will allow us to develop a clear strategy roadmap, besides facilitating IT-supported controlling and monitoring of processes,” said Abdul Hakim Abdul Kareem Malik, Director of IT Department, DM. Abdulla Al Shaibani, Assistant Director General for Technical Services, Dubai Municipality, said, “This strategic investment will help create a state-of-the-art technology environment that expedites processes and procedures, resulting in superior levels of organisational excellence. This will ultimately benefit the public, as streamlined processes will allow us to provide faster and more efficient services to our customers.” The new solution will allow DM to identify relevant business processes on a high level and detail the same using a process-modelling tool, facilitating process optimisation. It also enables top-down documentation and gradual specification of business processes. Appropriate performance indicators in process controlling illustrate cause-and-effect relationships. In addition, the workflow software assures the operability of the internal control system, and facilitates cost-effective implementation and efficient operation by re-utilisation of existing data.
