Two painters were killed on the Jumeirah Beach Residence on 13 April, when their cradle crashed to the ground. Both victims, 25 yr-old Shaqeel Ahmed and 36 yr-old Bhiarva Ram were from the Indian state of Rajasthan. The main contractor on the project is Arabtec. “The workers were suspended 15 floors high in a cradle and were busy doing their painting job when at around 9.40am, the cradle plummeted to the ground killing both of them,” said an Arabtec worker, who did not want to be named. The cradle collapsed after a heavy concrete panel fell on it. Khalid Omari, a safety officer at Arabtec, said: “This information is not releasable to you or anyone else.” A Rashid Hospital official confirmed that the bodies of the two men who died were being held at a police mortuary.
