Toshiba has named Mohamed Bensaid as sales and marketing manager for Kuwait, Oman and Qatar as the vendor attempts to accelerate notebook sales in these fast-growing GCC markets. Santosh Varghese, regional sales and marketing manager, Toshiba computer systems division Middle East and Africa, said: “Mohamed’s appointment underlines Toshiba’s ongoing strategy to build a strong team of regional leaders to support company growth and strengthen relationships with our customers, distributors, suppliers and other stakeholders.” “Toshiba is very successful in the region and we needed a sales and marketing manager with the necessary experience to focus on Kuwait and Qatar — key strategic countries — sustain the momentum and take the company on to the next level,” he added. Bensaid’s appointment comes at a time when Toshiba’s Middle East notebook unit is attempting to maintain top spot in the regional rankings. IDC positioned Toshiba as the number one notebook vendor in the region for the fourth quarter of 2005. Bensaid commented: “Taking up this newly created position for Toshiba is an exciting challenge and I look forward to helping Toshiba dominate notebook sales in 2006 and beyond. Toshiba will now be able to communicate and operate even more efficiently to meet the requirements of our diverse customers across the GCC.” Prior to joining Toshiba, Bensaid held the position of retail account manager at HP covering the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Yemen where he was responsible for developing a retail channel, negotiating with partners and the formation of a dedicated sales and merchandising team.
