The Dubai Metro project has been hit by the withdrawal of Capita Symonds from the management team. Atkins will now take over its role as design consultant to the project. Construction Week has learned that the UK-based consultancy withdrew after clashing with client advisor Atkins over its remit on the US $4 billion (AED4.6 billion) transit system. “Capita was not happy with the amount of risk it was being asked to carry, so it pulled out,” said a source close to the project. The company was part of the Dubai Rapid Link consortium that was selected to build the first two phases of the project last May. The other members of the consortium were Japanese firms Obayashi, Kajima and Mitsubishi and the Turkish firm, Yapi Merkezi. Capita Symonds was unavailable for comment.
