Power distributor and retailer Samir Photographic Supplies will use this year’s Gitex event to announce a major new KSA partnership with an as-yet undisclosed multinational electronics retailer. “We have just agreed the Saudi Arabian franchise with this company, so at Gitex we’ll hold a press conference to reveal both the name of this partner and details of the deal,” explains the Samir group’s marketing director, Saher Al-Hindi. A new company called Samir 2 (S2) was recently added to the Samir group and it’s this business that will represent the new multinational retailer in the country. S2’s other business lines will be telecoms — namely distributing and selling ETEN-branded handheld devices — and handling a new private label product named I-Smart. In addition to announcing its new deal, Al-Hindi believes this year’s Gitex event will also prove as crucial as ever in helping it build its brand, sign-up new business and meet current customers. “The show is a very important opportunity for us to meet our customer base,” Al-Hindi states. “It’s also a chance for us to meet international suppliers, and display new solutions and products — sometimes even new brands. From a new business point of view, it’s also an opportunity for us to get new business leads, check on the competition, and of course it’s big time branding exposure… it’s a statement to say ‘we’re here, with these products’.” Al-Hindi claims the company has grown by between 10% and 15% in the Kingdom over the past year.
