Acer pledges to maintain notebook momentum

Hardware vendor Acer is planning a significant presence at this year’s Gitex Saudi Arabia as it looks to maintain its number one ranking in notebook sales in the Kingdom — a position it claims to have held for the last two years.

Hardware vendor Acer is planning a significant presence at this year’s Gitex Saudi Arabia as it looks to maintain its number one ranking in notebook sales in the Kingdom — a position it claims to have held for the last two years. “Gitex Saudi Arabia provides for direct access to the Gulf region’s largest and highly tech-savvy market and we can reconfirm our commitment to the Kingdom by announcing that we will continue our policy of having direct representation at the exhibition,” said Krishna Murthy, general manager at Acer Middle East. “We believe that our continuing, direct and proactive presence in the Kingdom allows us to demonstrate how much we value the market as well as supporting our valued partners and distributors in the Kingdom,” added Murthy. While many major vendors are exhibiting alongside their in-country partners at this year’s Gitex Saudi Arabia, Acer has decided to run its own stand allowing visitors to see and test the vendor’s entire product portfolio, which includes desktops, notebooks, servers, projectors, cameras and LCD TVs. Attendees at the show will also have the opportunity to meet and speak with Acer representatives. Citing IDC figures, Acer claims that it has been number one notebook supplier in the Kingdom for two years. The global hardware giant will demonstrate a range of solutions at Gitex Saudi Arabia suitable for business, government, education and consumer customers. “Customers in Saudi Arabia have shown strong and loyal support to Acer over many years,” said Philip Ashkar, director of sales and marketing at Acer Middle East. “Our strategy of empowering people by delivering the most advanced technology available has been favourably received by the Kingdom’s consumers.” Acer’s latest PCs feature an ‘empowering technology’ suite, which the vendor claims allows users to manage many of the PCs functions with just three clicks of the mouse. Acer will focus on various product lines at Gitex Saudi Arabia including Acer Ferrari notebooks, Ferrari monitors, N35 PDAs with GPS, Veriton 2800 desktops, CS 6550 cameras, plasma TVs and the recently launched 37” LCD TV. “In 2005, Acer saw phenomenal growth and a consolidation of our number one position in notebooks and cemented the brand as a clear leader in the Saudi market as well as growing across the Middle East,” continued Ashkar. “In 2006, we expect to make further market share gains in the notebook and desktop PC business, as well as increasing the profile of our server solutions and promoting our digital camera and LCD TV ranges.” Acer is also working hard to strengthen its routes-to-market in Saudi Arabia. Reliable channel sources indicate that Acer has now signed up another major distributor on the ground in the Kingdom and will formally announce the partnership in the next couple of weeks. This major in-country partner will provide a strong channel for Acer’s commercial products and also provide a route-to-market for the kit being built at its joint venture manufacturing facility in the Kingdom.
